Words Matter: Common Assignment 2 (Pre Module Formative Assessment) For Teachers
This is the Pre-Module Formative Assessment section (for teachers) of Words Matter, a unit that helps students understand how words can carry multiple layers of meaning, as well as the way in which authors select words to convey deeper meaning. For easy use, files are available in PDF and Word.
Here’s what we know: Implementing a comprehensive, standards-aligned curriculum is a complex undertaking, even in a typical, in-person classroom. There are new pedagogical approaches to consider, texts and topics to unpack, instructional shifts to practice, academic routines to introduce, and the list goes on.
Research tells us that high-quality, aligned instructional materials is important in helping teachers support their students in mastering the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to be college and career ready.
Much has been written and debated on the state-led shift toward more rigorous, consistent K-12 education standards commonly known as Common Core. At the same time, that intense focus on the standards has obscured an equally important shift – the adoption of instructional resources aligned to the new standards.
