Our work in Washington state
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s roots are in the Pacific Northwest, where the Gates family has lived for generations. We honor our local roots by giving back to the community that has given us so much. In Washington State, we invest in improving education from preschool through college, preventing family homelessness, and strengthening community engagement, in order to ensure that every child has a chance to reach their full potential. Each year, the foundation grants about $300 million to nonprofits based in the Greater Seattle region.
