What It Looks Like: Master Coding Videos for Observer Training and Assessment — Report
This research report describes how to recruit, train, and organize a group of master coders to align video of classroom instruction with the components of an observation rubric to support observer training and assessment.
It has been thrilling from day one—in August of 2007—when I was hired as the director of the K-12 Education team. The team was given one year to assess the foundation’s work and propose a strategy for the next phase. We were given this advice: when you take on a cause where government is spending a lot of money, philanthropy can make the biggest impact by finding a strategic lever that others are missing.
At High Tech High Graduate School of Education, for the past five years we have been leading and participating in networks of educators aimed at collectively making progress on common problems of practice.
This ongoing series of publications by MET project partners can help states, districts, and technical assistance providers in building and improving a classroom observation system that supports better teaching and student learning.
