Making it Real: Pre Scoring Video to Clarify Expectations for Effective Teaching RIFT Master Coding Worksheet
Pre-scoring videos contain segments of recorded lessons that anchor an observation rubric to actual examples of teaching. The Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals (RIFT) created this worksheet to guide expert observers as they review video, record evidence, and agree on ratings.
To realize their full potential, students need access to excellent teachers. And excellent teachers need meaningful feedback to help them grow in their practice. In this way, giving teachers feedback and support ultimately benefits students and drives student success.
This ongoing series of publications by MET project partners can help states, districts, and technical assistance providers in building and improving a classroom observation system that supports better teaching and student learning.
Allowing teachers to submit videos in lieu of in-person classroom observations improved the experience for both teachers and administrators, a recent report from the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University found.
