Investing in the Promise of Quality Personalized Learning
Thanks to personalized learning, attendance and graduation rates are on the rise in Lindsay, California, where students — primarily from low-income families — have taken ownership of their learning and their futures. In this summary, Senior Program Officer Helayne Brinauer Jones explains what other schools can learn about the promise of quality personalized learning from Lindsay Unified School District.
People don’t usually look to places like Lindsay, California to find examples of extraordinary education. But extraordinary things are happening in this small town in the Central Valley. The students, almost all from low-income families and more than half English language learners, are engaged in their learning and taking ownership of their futures.
Powerful things happen when learning is student-centered. At Joseph Lovett Elementary School in Chicago, administrators have been working hard to create an engaging learning environment for students.
Far too many students don't have access to a high-quality education. This is particularly true for low-income students and students of color, roughly half of today's student population.
