The Reliability of Classroom Observations by School Personnel
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation introduced the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) project to develop and test multiple measures of teacher effectiveness. This report offers an in-depth discussion of the technical methods, results, and implications of the MET project’s research around video-based classroom observations by school personnel.
Two-thirds of American teachers feel that traditional evaluations don't accurately capture the full picture of what they do in the classroom. They want information that they can trust from measures that are fair and reliable.
From 2007 to 2014, Cambridge Education implemented Tripod surveys through its partnership with Dr. Ronald F. Ferguson of Harvard University. Dr. Ferguson and Rob Ramsdell were the professional leads for the survey portion of the MET project and Cambridge Education managed all data collection related to the Tripod survey.
