Graduation season is not just a time of celebration, joy, and anticipation for the future, it’s also an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the teachers and schools that go the extra mile for their students.
And for our Progress in Action campaign, that’s exactly what we’ll do. Over the month we’ll share inspiring stories from across the country highlighting how teachers and schools are going above and beyond to make sure their students are mastering the skills they need to be successful. Whether it’s a school providing summer support, or a teacher helping a low-income student overcome barriers to get to and through college, graduation season reminds us of the power of great teachers and schools who help students reach their full potential.
These stories will also serve as a profound reminder that we must continue to focus on not just graduating students, but also preparing them for continued success by supporting high standards and great teachers. While graduation rates are at an all-time high, college readiness rates (based on ACT/SAT benchmarks) aren’t keeping up with that growth. Right now, only 25 percent of high school students are graduating with the skills they need to succeed in college and career.
We hope you’ll join us this month as we celebrate the people who make graduation a truly unforgettable time. Share your favorite graduation photos using #GradPhoto and tell us about a graduation story from your community by emailing [email protected] or tweet about it using #ProgressInK12.
