Transformation

Pressure is mounting for colleges and universities to transform—redesigning structures, business models, and culture to dramatically improve student outcomes and educational value and eliminate race, ethnicity, and income as predictors of student success. This includes integrating evidence-based practices to create inclusive and coherent learning environments and prioritizing a student-centered mission, catalytic leadership, strategic data use, and strategic finance in a robust continuous improvement process.

Our work supporting institutional transformation dates back nearly a decade. It features partnerships with campuses and systems committed to real and lasting change and with intermediary organizations committed to sharing knowledge, tools, and resources. And we invest in a range of new tools and resources specifically designed to support colleges and universities as they seek to transform in an uncertain environment.

Transformation Intermediaries

Six non-profit organizations are working across a diverse set of partners to serve transforming institutions as connectors, advisors and strategists. The initiative focuses on collaborating with institutional teams to create the required conditions to initiate and sustain transformational work to improve college completion outcomes for students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.

Higher Ed Equity Network

The network’s strategy is to function as a policy, strategy, and national influence group that will persuade and position policymakers, higher education institutions, advocates, and funders to take new, bolder, and more accountable actions that lead to economic and social mobility for Black, Latino/a/x, Indigenous, and other historically underserved students.

Investment Priorities

Our investments focus on the “who” and the “how” of transformation: colleges and universities committed to redesign and the intermediaries supporting them; and the knowledge, tools, and resources to guide different aspects of the transformation process.
Supporting intermediary organizations to execute their best work
Support strong intermediary organizations equipped to guide and connect many more diverse colleges and universities as they develop and implement their plans for comprehensive change.
Serving as a resource for universities to better support students
Develop and deploy timely and relevant data and resources to help intermediaries and the campuses they serve make critical decisions about their priorities for maintaining and expanding student access and success.
